12-month Contract - Remote working

The Senior Advisor will have an immediate focus on supporting the ongoing Alberta Wildfire Recovery Operations, as well as the Ready Rating project. Within the Alberta Wildfire Recovery Operations, in collaboration with local partners, the CRC will be delivering training and resources on service continuity planning to a number of local community-based organizations in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. One of the resources which will be made available is the Ready Rating online platform, which will be a free Canadian Red Cross (CRC) service that will provide businesses, community-based organizations, and non-profits with tools, resources and information to better prepared for, respond to, and recover from disasters and other emergencies. Ready Rating is currently its development phase and is planned to be ready for use this year for the Alberta Wildfire Recovery Operations, but with a vision of expanding its availability to the whole country.

As a Senior Advisor - DRR Planning & Service Continuity you will:

Project and Resource Development – Alberta Wildfire Operations

  • Research and review existing Business Continuity (BC) / Service Continuity (SC) approaches, standards, and tools (both Canadian and International), identifying the most relevant ones for use in support of DRR programming
  • Lead on the design, development, operationalization, and maintenance of BC/SC tools, resources, guidelines, and systems, piloting these within the Alberta Wildfire Recovery Operations.
  • Develop and deliver trainings to partner organizations on the use of tools, resources, and systems

Project Development, Implementation, and Quality Assurance – Ready Rating

  • As part of the Ready Rating core project team, contribute to the overall planning of the Ready Rating online platform
  • Review and revise existing platform content, ensuring that it is the most relevant to the Canadian context, and it has the most up-to-date best practices; providing ongoing maintenance as needed
  • Support the core project team to establish a results framework and key performance indicators for the service
  • Pilot the delivery of the Ready Rating platform within the Alberta Wildfire Recovery Operations

Strategic Planning and Subject Matter Expertise (SME)

  • Working with the Director DRR, support the development of a Business Continuity/Service Continuity (BC/SC) strategy, and related service lines.
  • Contribute towards the identification and development of new projects and partnerships with a BC/SC focus.
  • As required, serve as a SME within the CRC for all work related to BS/SC
  • Working with the Director DRR, support on orientation, training and other forms of capacity building for CRC staff and volunteers

We’re looking for:

  • University degree in disaster risk reduction, business, or other relevant subjects. A Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Associate BCP (ABCP) is preferred
  • 5 years of related experience in Business / Service Continuity management and/or planning.
  • Previous experience with Disaster Risk Reduction is preferred
  • Practical knowledge of the disaster risk management context in Canada
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and capacity building, with a focus on government, non-government organizations, small businesses, and/or Indigenous communities and leadership
  • Experience in project and resource development
  • Knowledge and experience of the Canadian Red Cross culture, programs and principles is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English is essential
